Bal’s Friday Thought…

All about making memories.

Facebook is great at showing what happened on this day many years ago… on mine, up came an old memory. Wonderful! It’s those moments I will remember forever.

The people, well….

Bal’s Friday Thought…

Time goes quick.

Tomorrow, in the morning… I’ll be attending the funeral of a young man who passed away.

Then tomorrow evening, have a wedding reception of a close family friend (who recently got married). I’ve known him since he was a little kid.

Got me thinking, how time goes so quickly…. And mostly around wanting to do things which unfortunately stay as wants and aren’t ticked off the list…

Bal’s Friday Thought…

An old colleague recently reached out to me. He said, ‘Bal… I need some advice’.

I was more than happy to share whatever elements of wisdom I had and also provide him with not answers but questions for him to come to the answers.

You see, for me, I love to see people succeeding. It’s not a competition – it’s about everyone getting to where they want to get to and if I can help folks on that journey, then that’s only a good thing, right?

Bal’s Friday Thought…

Summer is here! Well, the weather has been a mixed bag… some days have been awesome lovely sunshine, some cloudy.. but that’s ok.

So Summer is kind of here! and thank you to Koen, who part of this Summer Book Club, always sends me a book for the summer to read. He provides me with a list of great books – and asks me to choose one. I’ll be honest – look forward to the Summer Book Club email… because a) I know I’ll be going on holiday soon, b) I’ll have a book to read and c) it’s nice to be part of the club.

So which book did I go for this summer…. well it was a difficult choice! There were so many great books on the list. But the one I ended up going fo was ‘The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down’. It’s by Haemin Sunim – and I’ve already started reading it! It’s brilliant… my favourite part of the book is my Friday Thought for today. I shared it on my Insta and got plenty of likes… even Gurpreet Singh (aka Sikh Dad) privately messaged me reflecting on this.

Here’s my Friday Thought… a Buddha see’s Buddha, a pig sees pigs… what do you see?

Bal’s Friday Thought…

I’m not going to apologise to the folk I spoke to for the last few days and kept referencing Ted Lasso.

It was the final show on Wednesday – and yes, one was a little emotional.

Absolutely brilliant! The best show ever! And if you haven’t had the opportunity to watch it – honestly, you should! There is so much we can learn from Ted. Like… be a goldfish!

Bal…. what’s your favourite quote or part of the show?

Well, there’s so many to choose from, but if you pinned me down and asked me to say one, it’d be the one below…

I’ve even got the quote saved on my phone.

Have a great weekend folks!

Age is just a number, right?

Correct! Age is just a number. There’s so many people that when they get older, they’ve realised they have so much knowledge and experience that when they want to embark on something, it’ll more likely to be a success than when they were younger.

But moreso… the more mistakes you make – the more you learn. The better you get.

Bal’s Friday Thought…

Never Hurry, Never Worry.

It’s a quote from a book that I’ve been reading. Great quote – and there’s a number of things that we should review or slow down with. It’s like my Friday Thought below… Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

Whilst speed and ‘first to market’ is important, there’s also an element of making sure it’s right. There’s an element of making sure it works. There’s an element of getting it how the customer or consumer would want it.

Bal’s Friday Thought…

This week has been a tough one.

Last Sunday, I was at the local Sikh Temple. I saw a close family friend who I hadn’t seen for a while. We laughed, joked and he asked how my parents were. I said they’re good.

Sunday night, I rang my parents. Told them who I saw, and that he was asking about them. Dad told me, how he remembers when he came to England from India, the support Dad and others provided for him and how he always shows a lot of love to the family.

Monday I was busy working. Challenges at work. But aren’t there always.

Tuesday at work. Come home. Had football in the evening. Super cold! – but good. Came home – and I had a message to call my Dad.

I called Dad. He said, I’ve some bad news. Earlier in the day, he was out shopping, and he had a phone call that someone had passed away and they needed my Dad’s support to help with some religious items. I asked Dad, who was it… he said, it was who I was laughing and joking with on Sunday.

Totally shocked! Only a few days earlier, we were laughing and joking – and now, he’s no more.

So my Friday Thought… value those around you, hug those close to you and appreciate those that are there for you.

Bal’s Friday Thought…

Today’s Friday Thought.. is about your three greatest treasures.

I’ve often spoken about simplicity – with my lean and six sigma background. I’ve often spoken about compassion, and some of the charity work I’m involved with.

Patience. If there was one place I could improve – is patience. On reflection – is it because we have so much data and information around us? Is it these 2 minute clips on Tik Tok that show us how to make a 20 minute meal, make us impatient? (Or do they inspire us?)

Either way, patience is important. And there are methods to help increase patience. I’ll let you find what works for you – & I’ll let you know how my journey goes.

Bal’s Friday Thought..

“Life is a journey, and if you fall in love with the journey, you will be in love forever.” – Peter Hagerty.

This quote reminds us that life is not just about reaching our destination or achieving our goals, but it’s about enjoying the journey itself. It encourages us to appreciate the present moment and find joy in the process of living, rather than just focusing on the end result. It’s a reminder to live mindfully, with intention, and to find gratitude in each step of our journey.
