Going Sober for October!

Morning folks! – Hope you had a great weekend…. and hope you have a great week ahead!! – You’re awesome!

Bal… what do you want? – you’re being nice.

I’m always nice…

Not always Bal. And what’s this ‘Sober October’ you’re talking about?

Ah… okay, I’ll be honest with you. I’m looking for you to donate some money to a Cancer Charity because I’m doing Sober October!

That’s right – nothing to do with Technology, Digital… or anything Innovation related. Nothing to do with Lean, Process or anything Data related…. but you know what, I’m going to share with you all what I’m doing this October because it’s for a great cause.

As you may know… I like the odd beer now and again, and really appreciated Jameson bottles I recieved for my birthday.

However, Macmillan Cancer Support is a great charity – and they have opportunity for folk to take part in ‘Sober October’ which means, you raise money and go Sober for the whole month of October!

As difficult as it may seem… and there were times I craved for a beer… but I’ve stayed sober. Sticking with the Coke Zero when out.

So… if you think I can do it, and would like to donate some money to charity, that helps those with cancer – which is only a good thing – then please click on the link below – (Thank you!!!!)

One does enjoy a ‘Proper Whiskey’…

We’ve seen Celebs collaborate and introduce new products to the market place.

We had Dr Dre… with the Beats Headphones. Which were a phenomenal success.

Now you have Mr Conor McGregor… introducing you to some ‘Proper Whiskey’.

My nephew text me and told me about it! – He said ‘Check this out… you going to try some?’

You know you have to, right? – similar to the Beats… if Dre… a master of his art, knows a thing or two about sound… must have done a good job on the headphones…. McGregor must have teamed up with some of the best in the world… and I’m sure Conor likes a drink or two… must have have produced a half decent Whiskey!

It’s not always about endorsements. I feel, you got to go one step ahead.

Collaborate with experts and bring out a new product, for the World to enjoy.

Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine – came together to produce and introduced the world to Beats Headphones.

And you can’t argue how successful they have been. Good or not… that’s a personal opinion… but they sure have made a buck or two for the founders.

So Connor… has done the same.

Along with Bushmill’s former distillery manager, David Elder… they have produced the Proper No. 12 Whiskey.

And straight away… you know it’s going to be big! You know it’s going to be popular… and it’ll sell lots. If you like blended whiskey or not… you’ll be intrigued.

And the marketing has started…. and what timing. You may (or may not know) Mr McGregor has a big fight coming up soon also…. so timing is perfect.

Not only that… his social media following is huge. And what a better way to promote your product..

So there you go…. the future isn’t about Endorsements.

It’s about Collaboration.

Happy 132nd Birthday….

On May 8th, 1886…. Coca-Cola was first served at Jacobs Pharmacy.

132 yrs old. Today. Let’s be honest… that’s impressive.

It’s impressive because we keep hearing about companies going bust, blaming technology, not adapting… we’ve heard all the Darwin based quotes before.

It all started with with John Pemberton…

I think a number of startups and businesses can learn from the above poster.

1. The What – (what is it?) A drink that is… delicious, exhilarating, refreshing… description is excellent. How would you describe your product in a few words?

2. The How – (do you get it?) – dispensed from the soda water fountain… bottles came later. So how do I get your product/service?

3. The Why – (why should I buy it?) – it delights every palate… (also a Brain Tonic….). So why should I separate from my hard earned money for your product/service?

Anyway… back to the story. 132 years old… and still going strong. And there’s reasons why…. from the change in top management and leadership recently, where the strategy has slightly changed… to introductions of new products and moving drinks which are successful in one area of the world to another…. adaptable is the key word here.

Another key word is Innovation.

Share a Coke with…. how awesome was that? Did you know the idea was first generated and shared in Australia? But everyone was sharing a Coca-Cola around the world.

But going back to this blog post and remembering it’s 132 years ago… when the beverages was first available.

When you look at your organisation, your business, your startup…. how long will it keep going? Are you working short term or long term?

A number of startups fail. Why? – Going too fast?… Not doing it properly? Trying to over-achieve? Stretched goals? Profit in the first year? Expectations too high?

My advice… and my thoughts I’ve shared with a startup recently is… take your time. Evolve… learn… and grow.

As hard it is to appreciate… don’t spend all your time thinking about profit and monies now. Focus on your product, your service and your brand. Get the name out there. And then build on that…
