Self Driving Cruising…

Last week, I had to take a flight from Heathrow. I usually park at T5 Pod Parking. It’s quick, easy, simple and I like it.

I have often thought – why aren’t these little bad boy pods on the streets?

So, for those who don’t know… these pods are self driving (obviously programmed for the track they have to take), no humans required, electric (saving a lot of tonnes of fuel that buses would have taken to do the same journey!) and quiet – I mean, I can sit there and do a few emails for those few minutes journey.

Back to my question – I did wonder, why aren’t they on the streets? – I’m sure someone like GM (General Motors), Ford or Toyota would do something with their self driving technology and put it into a pod like this. Where’s Tesla….?! – Here’s an idea for you Tesla!

Oh… hold the press. Someone is working on them and they’ll be coming sooner than we thought!

Cruise – the company, with GM… have designed, built and piloted a self driving pod/vehicle called the Cruise Origin!

So – they say, “When we got rid of all that human-driver stuff, we traded it for something precious: space.

The Cruise Origin looks big. But in fact, it’s no bigger than your average car. It’s just more efficient, making full use of the space it takes up on the road.

The doors don’t hinge outward. They slide open, so bikers are safer.

The entry is low to the ground, and three times larger than that of an average car — wide enough to make room for one person to step in while another person steps out.

Every seat is extra-legroom. And they all face each other, so you can have a conversation with family or friends.”

Very similar to the T5 Pod!

Personally, I think this is awesome!

It’s also, quite safe….

“When human beings drive, we rely on our eyes and ears. But even in simple suburban environments, with 20/20 vision and perfect hearing, we can only look in one direction, and we can only see and hear so much.

The Cruise Origin is powered by a brand-new, all-electric platform built by General Motors. It’s got what’s called redundancy, meaning there are no single points of failure across sensing, compute, networking, or power — because there’s no backup human driver.

Its multi-layered sensor suite is designed to keep track of multiple people and objects — even if they’re far away, in pitch-black, or hidden by rain or fog.”

Cruise Origin is currently in San Fran being tested 24/7 by the Cruise employees…. but they’ll start to invite members of the public and then look to roll it out around the States and me personally…. I can’t wait till it hits the UK!

That’s right – one of these on your street…very soon!

All about the Slofies

Do much last night? – No?… well… the first question would be, why didn’t you tune into the Apple event?! – I did tell you about it.

Okay, I get it… you’re busy, we’re busy… everyone is busy. And being honest, aren’t we busy on our devices – you know, the mobile phone, the tablet, computer, etc..

Anyhow – Apple released a few cool products. First up – the iPhone 11

That’s right – you get the 11, the 11 Pro and the 11 Pro MAX! – obviously, the first thing you’ll notice are the camera’s. That’s right – Apple have up’d their game on photography – and rightly so. The competitors have some brilliant cameras on the back of their phones.

Now – I could share a lengthy detailed blog post about the whole event, about the different phones, about the new products like the new watch, the new iPad and the new Operating system… but you know what – I’m also busy.

So – I’ll leave you with this video, a quick, short, snappy video which tells you everything you need to know. Enjoy!

Sept 10th with Apple…

Excited much?

I’ve previously share what the new iPhone 11 will be like. But haven’t share a lot about iOS13 – the new operating system.

New information coming out is also suggesting, if you’ve got an iPhone 6 or older… you won’t be able to take advantage of the new operating system, therefore vulnerable to hackers.

So which phone will run the new iOS?

  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPod touch (7th generation)

If you’ve not registered for the event – you can do so. If you want a reminder, (like me) find Apple on twitter, like their recent post and they’ll send you a reminder on the day! Customer engagement done properly!!

I won’t share much more now… but will let you know about the event after the 10th… so stay tuned!!

Review of Apple’s Event… and the New iPhones

Yesterday… Apple had their Event. Their main conference.

Some brilliant new items were announced, along with the new operating system… iOS12. Did you follow it? – Have you watched it all? – if not… don’t worry, I’ll summarise it here for you.

1. New iWatch

That’s right – there’s a new iWatch.

Packed with many new features – like it detects when you fall over, and has much more going on the watch face – but the one feature that really stands out is that it’s got the ability to carry out an ECG! Detecting low and high heart rates, shows Apple is leading the way with wrist worn health care technology.

2. New iPhone XS

Let’s be honest, the iPhone X has been a major success. It’s features (face recognition and much more) has been well recieved by customers. And now… well, there’s been an upgrade! You can now have the iPhone XS.

In fact, you can have an XS or an XS Max! The Max has a bigger screen… bigger screen than what you’d look at on an iPhone 8 Plus!

We were expecting it… and oh boy, doesn’t it look impressive!!

And it’s packed with some brilliant features…

One of the main features which i’m personally looking forward to is the Dual Sim!- that’s right… the iPhones will be able to accommodate 2 sims!!

3. …and one more thing.

The iPhone XR!

That’s right… a ‘lesser version’ of the X. It’ll be available in several colours… and therefore, here’s the full iPhone line up…

iOS12 will also have some great features…grouping messages and notifications on the home screen…. and much more. So much, I’ll have to test it out, and share it with you in an up and coming blog post.

One thing I did like about the Apple Event, was that they announced it on Twitter… and if you ‘liked’ it… then they notified you when it started. Ensuring no-one missed it. Brilliant marketing. But then… wouldn’t expect anything less. It’s all about having the ability to Think Differently.
